Vintage Champagne, is currently the most exciting and fastest growing area of the market and there has been extremely healthy evidence of consumer demand at auction in 2014. Vintage champagne is a staple addition to any diverse portfolio in this market and commands enormous premiums for a select group of wines that are this rare – this certainly falls into that category.

For clients who have a long term outlook on the market, this particular option will certainly double in value over the next 5 – 7 years & for those who cannot wait that long, will ensure 50% growth in the next 3 -5 years. I have summarised some key points below and attached a comparison graph that I put together earlier today, demonstrating the value and investment potential.

•   Less than 1,000 cases produced annually of which this is the only availability.

•   Vintage champagne only released once ready to drink. Coming up to its optimum maturity (2015-2035) , so     will hit its peak in the future – potential higher rating!

•   95pts from The Wine Advocate but in tasting notes, identified as a wine that will improve in time.

•   6 mags of Krug Clos Du Mesnil 1985 (93pts) sold for £11,000.00 in auction at the end of March (2014), far     exceeding the pre-sale estimate. Champagne continues to do well at auction.

Drink: 2015 - 2035

The 2000 Brut Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil is rich, deep, textured and wonderfully complete. The seductiveness of the 2000 vintage comes through beautifully, but the Mesnil has extra dimensions of depth that aren’t found in the Vintage. Smoke, ash, graphite, pastry and lemon are some of the nuances that unfold in this supremely gracious, refined Clos du Mesnil. I expect the 2000 to take some time to reach its peak, but it is superb, even at this early stage.

Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035

As the table above demonstrates, the 2000 vintage (highlighted in green) is by far the most undervalued vintage produced.

As a comparison the below graph shows the 5 year performance of the 1988 vintage of the same Champagne:

Starting from roughly the same price per 12 (£5,500) it is now worth over £10,000 – 83.1% Growth in 5 years. The 2000 is likely to perform similarly and with the market for Champagne growing worldwide, there is even greater potential for growth for the most revered prestige cuvées such as Clos du Mesnil. The rarity factor plays a big part in collector’s appeal for this wine and with consumption levels for Champagne at all-time highs, it’s easy to see why this will be such a strong medium-long term performer.

·         One of the most revered Prestige Cuvée Champagnes produced

·         Micro Production, extremely limited availability

·         Significantly undervalued vs. comparable vintages

·         85% Growth projected over next 5 years

·         Growing global demand and consumption for fine champagne
