Pricesfor Pavie have continued to rise since the estate’s promotion to Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé (A), the appelation’s highest possible status. Pavie vintages have risen, on average, by around 12% since last August and the 100-point 2000 vintage, of which there are only 24 cases listed worldwide, has witnessed 35% growth over the same period, with further price increases expected. We are therefore fortunate to have supply of this extraordinarily scarce vintage of Pavie, which Gerard Perse assures us is the greatest Pavie ever produced & are very pleased to be able offer 5 cases (12x75cl) at £4,550- UK BEST MARKET PRICE.

Due to the extremely limited availability of this particular offer, please make your interest known ASAP in order to avoid disappointment.

Summary:

Very limited supply, only 24 cases showing worldwide.

RPJ: ‘A legend now…a legend for the future’.

Undervalued in comparison to fellow 100pt St-émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé (A).

Recent Reclassification alongside investment in new cellars has led to strong brand development and greater demand.

One of Bordeaux’s most controversial and enigmatic wine makers.

Pavie 2000 rated 100pts by Robert Parker on 4 separate occasions, 1 of only 2 wines to have this accolade, the other being LMHB 2000.

Parker Tasting Notes:

I tasted this wine twice during the 2000 horizontals, then I actually popped the cork and drank a half-bottle of it. This wine remains, for me, one of the compelling success stories for proprietor Gerard Perse. An extraordinary effort made from a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the limestone soils that dominate this very distinctive terroir, the 2000 Pavie has moved out of the closed, dormant, broodingly backward stage into an adolescent period where one can see its extraordinary vibrancy, and great complexity as well as potential. It boasts an unctuous display of rich, cedar box-infused cassis fruit and liquid minerality. The tannins have sweetened, yet the wine has thirty years of longevity and potential evolution. A beautiful wine of great mass as well as elegance, it is good to see the extraordinary efforts that Gerard Perse and his team have made confirmed in this prodigious wine. A legend now ... a legend for the future. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2060.

Score: 100

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (189), June 2010

Investment Analysis:

Pavie 2000 is one of only two vintages of this wine to be awarded 100 pts, the other being the 2009. However, the 2000 vintage is widely recognised as the best ever Pavie having been rated at 100 pts by Parker on four separate occasions:

1st 100 pt score awarded in April 2003, Wine Advocate

2nd 100 pt score awarded in December 2003, Bordeaux Book

3rd 100 pt score awarded in July 2008, Hedonist Gazette

4th 100 pt score awarded in June 2010, Wine Advocate

This accolade highlights the legendary status of this Pavie vintage and suggests that this is a wine that will continue to break boundaries, potentially elevating its status to one of the greatest wines the Right Bank has ever produced.

Looking at fellow appellation First Growths, Ausone and Cheval Blanc, Pavie 2000 looks like it has a lot further to go in comparison to 100 pt vintages of Ausone or Cheval Blanc, particularly with the supply side becoming increasingly strained.

With top vintages of Pavie currently experiencing strong demand and new interest, there is little doubt that the flagship vintage of this estate will potentially eclipse £8,000 per 12 bottle case over the next 3 to 5 years.

When Parker first rated the Pavie 2000 at 100 pts in 2003 he boldly claimed: ‘Life is too short not to own and consume the 2000 Pavie’. Now we are not suggesting our clients buy this wine for consumption but would unequivocally endorse the investment merit of this unique opportunity to own one of the greatest wines Bordeaux has ever produced.
