Sotheby’s HK to open autumn season with 3,000-bottle sale

Sotheby’s Hong Kong has announced the single-owner sale of wines from Austria’s famed Fux restaurant. The sale – which kickstarts the auction house’s autumn sessions – consists of over 500 lots of more than 3,000 bottles, and is expected to fetch over HK$13.5m.

The award-winning Fux restaurant is well-known for its exquisite wine list, with more than 4,000 different wines on offer. This collection was assembled by restaurant owner Peter Strolz over the course of 20 years, with highlights including full ranges from Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Armand Rousseau, Comte Georges de Vogue and Roumier.

There will be a number of Italian treats on offer, including Gaja, Masseto, Sassicaia and Ornellaia, as well as a broad range of Champagnes including Jacques Selosse and Krug Clos du Mesnil 1983, 1995 and 1998.

According to Jamie Ritchie, worldwide head of Sotheby’s Wine, the sale “represents only a modest thinning out of the collection in order to make room in the Fux cellar for newer vintages”, as the restaurant continues to thrive.

“We have offered more than 50 single owner sales from private collectors, but so far only one series from a restaurant: the very successful sales of The el Bulli Cellar in 2013. We are very excited that Fux Restaurant becomes only the second restaurant that has had an entire Sotheby’s auction dedicated to its wines.”

The sale takes place in Hong Kong on 30th September.
