The best performing 2016 wines since release this year

In a comprehensive article on the 2016 En Primeur campaign, the Financial Times has published an up-to-date summary of the performance of certain wines in the secondary market since release this year.

According to data sourced from Liv-ex, the top performing 2016 wine since its release this year is Lafleur, having gained 54.1%. This is followed by Canon (37.1%), Carmes Haut Brion (34.3%), Montrose (18.8%) and Cos d’Estournel (10.7%).

Wines that have performed more poorly include Evangile (-0.2%), Angelus (-3%), Pavie (-3.3%), VCC (-4.3%) and Pontet Canet (-5.1%).

The article also notes that while most merchants agree the chateaux have priced their 2016 reasonably, “very little” supply has appeared, which has frustrated buyers.
