The 1999 Chateau Rauzan-Segla from Chateau Rauzan-Segla, Margaux, Bordeaux

The noble terroirs of Margaux have long been the source of remarkable tales in the world of viticulture, with the 1999 Chateau Rauzan-Segla from Chateau Rauzan-Segla penning an illustrious chapter. That particular vintage encapsulates a season that tantalised vintners and collectors alike with its initial reticence, only to triumph as an entrancing classic.

A Vintage Distinctive in Poise and Presentation

The clime of 1999 provided moderate warmth and adequate rainfall across Bordeaux, laying the foundation for a vintage that might not herald the boisterous acclaim of its more flamboyant peers but certainly deserves attention. This is particularly true for investment-suited wines like the 1999 Chateau Rauzan-Segla, where subtlety and gradual maturation invite a discerning palate.

Complexity and Cultivation: A Tasting Voyage

To acquaint oneself with the 1999 Chateau Rauzan-Segla is to be swept away on a sojourn where dark fruits dance among whispers of truffle and earth—a marriage consummated by refined tannins and an admirably persistent finish. This is a wine which, two decades in repose, now unfurls its layers with an unhurried grace that resonates with the assured investor looking beyond the evident stars of the Bordeaux firmament.

Opening a bottle now reveals a complexity that has been cultivated over years in the sanctuary of the chateau's cellars. Margaux's renowned elegance is on full display, as the once tightly wound structure has relaxed to flaunt a suppleness that holds fast to the wine's distinguished lineage.

In summary, when penning thoughts on this dignified classic, one finds themselves revealing a tapestry rich in texture and refined detail. To invest in the 1999 Chateau Rauzan-Segla is to invest not only in a bottle of wine but in an experience that reflects both a storied province and a hallmark year that quietly demands respect from those who seek treasures beyond the clamour of more extolled vintages.

The 1999 Rauzan-Ségla is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep brick, the nose is fading slightly with coffee, old leather, tobacco and spice box notes on offer along with vague prunes and nutmeg notions. Medium-bodied with a decent core of mature fruit and a chewy texture, it finishes firmly and a little abruptly. Drink up!
