2000 Clinet

By Chateau Clinet

2000 Clinet from Chateau Clinet, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The millennium vintage wines from Bordeaux are enveloped in fervent discussion and meticulous scrutiny, yet the 2000 Clinet from Chateau Clinet stands as a paragon within this esteemed group. This vintage is both a reflection and an exception to the rule when it comes to the Pomerol appellation. As a wine investment aficionado, I have monitored with avid interest how this particular vintage has blossomed over the years.

Meticulously Sculpted by Time's Artisanal Hand

In the year 2000, Chateau Clinet was bestowed with a sequence of climatic blessings that resulted in grapes evincing optimum ripeness and structure. The Merlot-centric blend has been long lauded for its ability to convey the deep clay and gravel soil essence of Pomerol and there is perhaps no more compelling exhibition of this terroir-character than in the 2000 Clinet.

A Distillation of Terroir and Mastery

The alchemy of elements in this vintage is remarkable, unfurling a tapestry of dark cherries, truffle, and hints of tobacco - a triad that serves as an undercurrent to the complex flavour profile that has evolved. On the palate, opulence marries with elegance; rich, yet filigreed with refined tannins that promise continued positive development for those invested in its journey.

The long finish exudes subtleties of earthy complexity, providing a resonance that keeps the imbiber contemplatively engaged long after the last sip. An optimal harvest, coupled with astute winemaking finesse, has rendered the 2000 Clinet a sought-after asset in any discerning investor’s portfolio.

A Vintage That Captivates Beyond Its Epoch

In closing, much like an artist finds their muse, that elusive subject that distinguishes their work as one of singular vision - so too does the 2000 Clinet from Chateau Clinet distinguish itself within the prolific galleries of Bordeaux vintages. It offers investors not only a wine of great repute but also an encapsulation of one of Bordeaux's finest hours. Patience will be rewarded with an unfolding narrative of sensory delight, making the 2000 Clinet a beacon for those seeking both pleasure and investment prudence.

Beautiful aromas of plums, soy, black currants, black raspberries, espresso, and spring flowers jump from the glass of this perfumed, dense plum/ruby/purple-tinged Pomerol. Medium to full-bodied and pure with sweet tannin and impressive extract, it will benefit from 2-3 more years of bottle age, and should last for an additional two decades.

Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index's Clinet vertical. A first bottle tasted blind was found to be out of condition, a second (tasted non-blind) has a ripe, floral bouquet with luscious dark cherry, black plum and black olive aromas with prominent new oak. The palate is full-bodied with dense, sinewy tannins, notes of spice, mulberry, cassis and vanilla with just a hint of mushroom towards the finish. My main criticism is that it is not a joyful Pomerol
