2007 Château Beauséjour

By Chateau Beausejour

2007 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse from Chateau Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux

The 2007 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse from Chateau Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse offers an intriguing study in the resilience and adaptability of an exceptional terroir faced with an interesting and challenging vintage. Indeed, the growing conditions of 2007 across Bordeaux were notably capricious, imposing a test of mettle on both vineyard and vintner alike.

Nuanced Elegance in a Complex Year

It is often in the difficulty of a growing season that the deftest touch in winemaking comes to the fore. The 2007 vintage at this hallowed estate is a testament to such proficiency. The character of this year's offering differs markedly from the powerhouse vintages such as 2005 or 2009. Instead, it presents with a more refined poise; a silken cloak that rests lightly upon the shoulders of its broad shouldered forebears.

The 2007 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse encapsulates the essence of its limestone plateau with a harmony of ripe blackberry and plum married to subtle earthy undertones and a whiff of truffle. Time has woven tannins now mellowed, yet they retain ample structure to frame the wine elegantly.

An Investment in Graceful Maturation

Fine wine investors understand that choosing vintages from Chateau Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse means investing in wines that stand the test of time. Whilst perhaps somewhat overshadowed by years boasting bolder intensity and concentration, the 2007 vintage epitomises finesse. With its gentle evolution, this wine suggests a prudent acquisition for those seeking nuance and subtlety, marking an alluring point between youthful vigour and mature gracefulness.

In summation, the 2007 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse shows how poise can triumph over power and how even the most challenging vintages can bring forth hidden gems for those willing to explore beyond the heralded years. It is a formidable addition to any collection for its demonstration of elegance that only the restraint of mother nature can refine.

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. The 2007 Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse has a sedate bouquet with brambly black fruit with redcurrant and a touch of dried fig lending sweetness. The palate is medium-bodied with tannin that have softened dramatically in recent years. It feels grainy in texture with a rather fluffy, gravelly finish that is missing some backbone. Easy-drinking Saint Emilion but still, it is nicely crafted considering the growing season. Tasted March 2015.
