Climatic Serendipity

This pivot allowed poise and balance in wines typically heralded for their power. Indeed, for Chateau Clos Fourtet, this meant the yield of a vintage which today exudes depth whilst maintaining that quintessential claret elegance.

The '98 vintage produces layers of earthy complexity interwoven with ripe dark fruits and subtle yet persistent tannic structure. The right bank’s dominance by Merlot comes forth with plush plum tones, accented by nuances of truffle and tobacco—a palate which speaks emphatically of its lineage while taking aficionados on an evolved journey beyond the initial sensorial greeting.

The Clos Fourtet '98 is now reaching 15 years old. It offers a lovely ripe, rounded blackberry, mulberry, Chinese tea and incense-scented bouquet that is now fully open. The palate has a sense of femininity on the entry with ebullient red berries, a hint of kirsch and mint towards the ravishing finish. Lovely

A strong effort from Clos Fourtet, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers pure blackberry and cherry aromas with subtle wood and licorice in the background. Medium-bodied, exceptionally pure, with low acidity as well as silky tannin, this sexy offering is ideal for drinking now and over the next 14-15 years.
