A Vintage of Vigourous Vitality

The 2010 season in Burgundy was marked by a fortuitous interplay of conditions, with a cold winter transitioning into a moderate summer, punctuated by a few necessary bouts of warmth that enveloped the vineyards at just the right moments. For the connoisseur, this equanimity between temperatures has translated into an entrancing bouquet of precision for the 2010 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine Coche-Dury.

An Exemplar for Investors

Noble by nature, discerning investors have long acknowledged Domaine Coche-Dury's prowess in encapsulating the quintessence of Burgundian terroir. The 2010 vintage, with its rousing acidity and extraordinary ageing potential, affirms its standing as one of singular investment calibre. Its sophisticated nuance and textural finesse immortalise it within the tapestry of prodigious vintages.

Tasting this wine is to dance across a palate of minerality so intertwined with oak and fruit that they become indistinguishable; crisp apple commingles with toasted hazelnuts whilst a subtle vein of flinty smokiness insinuates longevity. As you sip, you are introduced to layers that unfurl with each moment—a spectrum spanning from pearlescent citrus to soothing brioche.

In summation, the 2010 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine Coche-Dury represents a tier of its own within the echelons of fine wine investment. Beyond its immediate opulence, it offers what every serious investor desires—a prestigious lineage hallmarked by a sublime vintage year capable of graceful maturation. An investment in subtlety and strength, it courts the collector who appreciates unwavering quality interwoven with years defined by their distinction.

The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne is every bit as remarkable from bottle as it was from barrel. In the glass it is vivid, multi-dimensional and wonderfully alive. At once powerfully vibrant yet also seamless, the 2010 has everything; expressive aromatics, nuanced fruit and taut, incisive minerality. I only hope to have a chance to taste it again in a few years’ time. Today, it looks like Coche’s 2010 Corton-Charlemagne is headed straight for icon status. It may very well be the wine of the vintage. If it isn’t, it is among the top 2-3. Anticipated maturity: 2020+. (Not yet released) Jean-Francois Coche’s 2010s have turned out just as I hoped they would, which is to say the wines are breathtaking. On average, yields were down 40%, so these already highly coveted, rare wines are going to be even more impossible to find than usual. Coche is adamant that opening his top 2010s before age ten is a total waste, something he repeated a few times during my visit. Accordingly, Coche doesn’t plan on releasing the Corton-Charlemagne for another few years. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to taste all of the 2010s from bottle, but this sample is a good representation of the vintage.
