The narrative of the 2007 vintage in Burgundy is a mosaic of climatic challenges and winemaker's artistry, a tale where the intrepid vignerons coaxed greatness from caprice. Unmasking the Singular Virtues of a Vintage

In such a year where Burgundy saw climactic swings, the meticulous care in vineyard management shown by Domaine Coche-Dury rose to the fore. With their reputed low yields and diligent, hands-on approach to viticulture, they have yielded a 2007 Meursault Rougeot that illustrates the idyllic balance of tension and richness—a dichotomy true to this stellar domaine.

Distinctiveness Personified by the Season

The harvest season, remarkably cool and extended, bestowed upon this chardonnay-based marvel an architectural precision - imbuing it with flinty minerality and an almost ethereal acidity. These striking characteristics are elegantly draped in layers of honeyed citrus and orchard fruit nuances. The vintage also facilitated an extended ageing potential; this wine confidently strides into its maturation with poise and increasing complexity.

It appears that investment-savvy collectors endowed with an appreciation for nuance and finesse would find their acumen rewarded in acquiring bottles of the 2007 Rougeot. Given Domaine Coche-Dury’s cult status and the cresting maturity of this vintage, it is one to watch with consideration for diversifying a connoisseur’s portfolio.

Summarising a Vinous Marvel

To encapsulate, the 2007 Meursault Rougeot from Domaine Coche-Dury is a microcosm of all that captivates enthusiasts about Burgundy in challenging years. A whisper of austerity lends this vintage its spine, while the domaine's masterful barrel regime has inscribed upon it whispers of toast and vanilla—all melding into a lingering symphony on the palate. Impeccably structured, yet sumptuously layered, it ascends as a compelling chapter amidst Burgundy's vast anthology.

The 2007 Meursault Les Rougeots from Coche-Dury is lovely, the lean, tensile vintage beautifully tempered by this lieu-dit that tends to produce authoritative, dense wines. Aromas of lime, sesame, green pear, wheat toast and preserved lemon, framed by new oak, precedes a full-bodied, glossy wine with superb amplitude, unerring focus and a long, chalky finish. This really blossoms with a decant and is still a good six or seven years away from its apogee.
