In the hallowed halls of Burgundian royalty, the 2011 vintage from Domaine des Comtes Lafon provides a regal expression of Meursault at its most enchanting. The year 2011 was met with bated breath and yielded wines laced with poise—a testament to the resilient terroir and the alchemy of adept winemaking.

Sublime Synthesis: Terroir and Talent Intertwined

The 2011 vintage was characterised by its erratic climatic duel where a warm spring ushered in an early bud break, while a cooler summer elongated maturation, culminating in a harvest that balanced ripeness with vivacity. The resulting Meursault 1er Cru Charmes carries a lineage of grace, the quintessence of Lafon's storied tradition in every glass. There lies great attractiveness for fine wine collectors, ensconcing investment potential with each harmonic sip.

A Vintage to be Cherished

The ethereal nose evokes hedgerows in bloom; floral undertones are married seamlessly with whispers of honeyed citrus and toasted almond—hallmarks of the Charmes vineyard's generosity. On swirling the golden elixir within its chalice, it reveals layers of complexity: a firm minerality and acid structure endorse the ripe stone fruits' caress on the palate.

The 2011 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes articulates its narrative with an elegant precision; a wine of such breeding is coaxed to unfurl its peacock’s tail majestically, yet holds court with restraint—a dance between potency and poise. Unquestionably, it is a memorable vintage, revealing Domaine des Comtes Lafon's deft craftsmanship under adverse weather benevolence.

While the 2011 Meursault Les Rougeots is still a young wine, it's beginning to drink very well, unfurling in the glass with a beautifully integrated bouquet of lemon oil, green apple, sesame and wheat toast, framed by a very subtle touch of smoky reduction that dissipates with aeration. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and racy, with a layered, nicely concentrated core, tangy acids and a long, lingeringly stony finish. This is shaping up to be an excellent but comparatively precocious vintage for Coche-Dury, and readers with multiple bottles shouldn't be afraid to try one in the next year or two.
