The 2011 vintage in Burgundy was a specimen of precocity, one that offered a lively interplay between ripeness and structure. At the helm, the 2011 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair stands as a testament to the year's singular charm, and the finesse that Vosne-Romanée is revered for.

Elegant Alchemy in a Complex Vintage

By no small feat, 2011 was a year that challenged vignerons with its early start followed by an erratic season. Yet within this crucible of climatic flux, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair crafted something quite remarkable—the 2011 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau found balance in an otherwise capricious year. This vintage reveals a tapestry woven with delicate tannins and a vivacious acidity, speaking to the deft hand necessary to tame the extremes of the season.

The Quintessence of Terroir and Tradition

The terroir's role emerges resplendent in the glass, showcasing the mineral-laden character that defines this clos. Domaine Liger-Belair's biodynamic approach further coaxes out the nuance associated with this tiny yet illustrious parcel of land. The palate revels in a symphony of dark cherries and raspberries, subtly laced with spice and earth—hallmarks of Vosne-Romanée finesse.

As much as it is an opus to the essence of its origins, so too is this wine a canvas displaying the idiosyncrasies of 2011. On tasting, investors will discover layers unfolding—a narrative of density and concentration without forsaking elegance, indicative of promising ageing potential and investment merit.

An Enduring Investment

In summation, the 2011 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair showcases the triumph over a challenging vintage through masterful vinification. As it matures, its complexity and grace will undoubtedly confer laurels upon collectors wise enough to invest in its potential.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château is muted on the nose - something that is apparent after the 2009 and 2010 vintages. It demands coaxing from the glass. The palate is more open for business with sappy red fruit, crisp acidity, superb balance and a gentle grip on the finish. Afford this four or five years in bottle. Tasted June 2015.
