An Exemplar of Elegance in a Challenging Vintage

Domaine Georges Roumier's mastery was put to the test in 2008, a challenging year that began with inclement weather but eventually led to a miraculous late-season ripening. Where lesser domains may falter, Roumier soared, crafting a wine of subtle brilliance and noble pedigree.

The 2008 Ruchottes Chambertin is replete with a flourishing complexity only precise viniculture can coax from such capricious conditions. It offers profound layers where dark cherries and ripe raspberries dance amidst whispers of earth and truffle, embellished further by delicate floral undertones. A refined, persistent finish speaks both of the character of the vineyard and the adept hands that have moulded it.

A Vintage With Longevity for Discerning Investors

This bottle stands as one of the beacons for investors looking to embellish their cellars with vintages shaped by adversity, yet shining with achievement. The lithe tannins and vibrant acidity suggest a promising journey ahead for those patient enough to allow this wine to unveil its full array of virtues over time.

Framed by impeccable structure, the 2008 Ruchottes Chambertin from Domaine Georges Roumier showcases how a storied terroir can express its voice forcefully, even in less heralded years. For investors seeking to diversify portfolios with bottles that narrate a story of triumph over climatic challenge, here lies an investment both sensory and sagacious.

In summation, while 2008 posed its trials to the winemakers of Burgundy, it is precisely this adversity that has chiselled the character into this Ruchottes Chambertin. Steeped in the narrative of its season, it is an articulated expression of place and time—a compelling addition for collectors seduced by resilient vintages crafted by venerable producers like Roumier.

Roumier’s 2008 Ruchottes-Chambertin is drop-dead gorgeous. Layers of dark fruit, violets, pepper and flowers meld together in this multi-dimensional, beautifully textured wine. Despite its weightless elegance, this shows plenty of vitality, and a cool vibrant personality that will fully emerge only after several additional years in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. My visit with Christophe Roumier was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Burgundy earlier in the year. The range of 2009s is simply extraordinary, and the 2008s aren’t too far behind. Most of the 2009s were in tank, awaiting imminent bottling. Roumier began harvesting on September 12. Importer: Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, Napa CA; tel. (707) 299-2600
