2001 Vosne Les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

Approaching its third decade, the 2001 Vosne Les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy presents itself as a measure of winemaking mastery. Domaine Leroy, consistently synonymous with the pinnacle of Burgundian finesse, has produced yet another vintage which substantiates its legendary status.

A Vintage of Purity and Precision

Set in the dramatic climactic beginnings of the millennium, where winegrowers contended with initially auspicious conditions marred by an August downpour, Burgundy was opulent in challenges. It is precisely these moments of adversity that orchestrated the 2001 Vosne Les Genaivrieres’s tale — a vintage defined by its triumphant resilience and a stringent selection process that saw only the pinnacle clusters transformed into what we savor today.

Coveted Complexity: A Prime Investment Vintage

Guided by Lalou Bize-Leroy's fastidious philosophy, this particular cuvée heralds from the revered terroir of Vosne-Romanée. The symphony of sensorial delights begins with a bouquet that holds a seasoned imbuer captivated; wafts of rich dark cherries mingle with the grounded earthiness redolent of the Vosne soils enraptured with a whiff of sophisticated spice. As it caresses the palate, the tapestry unfolds in time-released layers – a testament to its adroit vinification and terroir expression.

The palate does not stray from excellence; it is precise yet embracing, exhibiting tannins that whisper tales of elegance rather than shouting for attention. Red fruits, underbrush, and a hint of gaminess perform in harmony — a triumph that invites contemplation.

An erudite choice for fine wine investors, this vintage is at a pivotal stage where its investment value promises as much reward as its drinking pleasure. Maturing gracefully with an aging potential that can endure and fascinate even further, securing allocations of the 2001 Vosne Les Genaivrieres now could be as astute as it is indulgent.

In closing, the 2001 Vosne Les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy is a vinous relic showcasing the fortitude and flair of Burgundy’s vines through turn-of-the-century tribulations. Its sustained poise posits it not just as an oenological gem but as one befitting even the most discerning investor's portfolio.

Light to medium-bodied, precise, and elegant, the 2002 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet offers a nose of pears, spices, and anise. Minerals, toast, and stones can be found in its intense, crystalline, concentrated personality. Projected maturity: 2006-2014. To Pierre Morey, the 2002s are “from normal yields and reflect their terroir, two signs of a great vintage.” He went on to add, “Though it was an easy year in the vineyard without any burnt grapes, freezes, or hail, I’ll admit we were very worried between the twentieth of August and tenth of September, when the weather was wet and dreary. Thankfully, we were saved by the north wind.” He added that in 2003, Puligny-Montrachet had battled freeze, multiple hailstorms, and oidium (powdery mildew).
