Epicurean Elegance: A Collector's Compendium

The notion that time bequeaths complexity to a wine is resoundingly echoed in the 1999 vintage. With 20-plus years of bottle maturation, it has blossomed into a remarkable testament to the fruit of that year's harvest. This was a year marked by its equilibrium—meticulously ripened grapes achieved by weather that threaded the needle between benevolence and exacting challenge.

A Magnum Opus of Terroir and Time

Corton Renardes - a climat renowned for producing wines with formidable structure and longevity - gifts this particular cuvée an extraordinary backbone. In its youth, the 1999 was appreciated for its strapping vigour, and now it serenades the senses with nuanced layers; a mélange of fruit compote, exotic spices, and earthen reverie beckons one into a velvet-gloved embrace.

The palate protrudes with mature tannins that dance in concert with the remnants of youthful red fruits—a duality that articulates both the pursuit and attainment of age-worthy sophistication. It's unsurprising how well received it remains among fine wine investors, reflecting not just an enological triumph but also economic foresight.

In summing up, the 1999 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy embodies an era in which both terroir and human artistry were met with a year that accented their strengths. As it advances gracefully into its third decade, it continues to captivate connoisseurs globally, undoubtedly enhancing any discerning investor's portfolio with its enduring splendour.

The 1999 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru was the one wine in the range that seemed a little fatigued, offering up aromas of dried red berries, candied peel, sweet spices and camphor, with a light framing of new oak still in evidence. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, firm and chalky, without the multidimensional completeness and seamless integration that the domaine so routinely attains.
