Among the constellation of Burgundian offerings, the 2009 Gevrey les Combottes from Domaine Leroy shines with a particular resplendence, hailing from a year that artfully expresses the fortitude and grace of its provenance. The Singular Symphonies of 2009

This distinct vintage stands out for its generational juxtaposition — the robust character engendered by the sun-soaked days finds elegant counterpoints in the cool, starlit nights of that year's growing season. Swathed in ideal climatic conditions, the 2009 produces a wine of visceral depth defined by plush textures and resonant flavours that continue to evolve enchantingly with age.

Investment-worthy Elegance

For discerning investors and collectors seeking wines that promise both immediate pleasure and long-term appreciation, this vintage proves itself to be an indispensable addition. Domaine Leroy's meticulous viticulture and philosophies are manifest — each sip reconfirms its pedigree. The investment appeal of the 2009 Gevrey les Combottes is not merely in its genetic lineage but in its grandiloquent expression of time and place.

The 2009 vintage unfolds with an inviting bouquet ripe with red fruits, evolving to reveal layers of complexity with hints of earthy truffles and delicate spice. On the palate, it is both structured and silky, a duality that encapsulates the essence of Burgundy wines.

In fine, the 2009 Gevrey les Combottes from Domaine Leroy speaks volumes about its vintage-characterised narrative: a year wherein nature bestowed upon Burgundy a harvest meant for crafting legends. For those looking to enhance their portfolios with an investment testimony to nature’s prosperous bounty in 2009, this wine is a compelling chapter in Burgundy's grand legacy.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes is another dazzling wine. It shows extraordinary freshness in its tiny yet persistent bursts of fruit. This is pure class from start to finish. The tannins are pure silky, while sweet floral notes weave throughout, giving the wine lift and extraordinary sensuality. The Combottes is hauntingly beautiful. It will be a fascinating wine to follow over the coming years and decades. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. This was my first opportunity to taste the 2009s from Domaine Leroy in bottle. Lalou Bize-Leroy was among the first, if not the first, to bottle her 2009s, so she naturally wanted to give the wines some time to recover before showing them. The wines are stunning. Readers who have an opportunity to taste them should not hesitate. As always, the style is one of textural richness and depth, but the2009s appear to have excellent underlying material as well. The attention to every detail at the Domaine is quite evident in these thrilling wines. My visit ended with a sample of the 2010 Chambertin from barrel. Why not go straight to the top? If that wine is representative of the year, Leroy fans will have another superb vintage to look forward to, although yields will be lower than the already minuscule production.
