The Quintessence of Terroir: A Vintage Like No Other

As we examine this particular vintage, one cannot overstate the singular weather patterns that permeated Burgundy in 1990. A mild winter gave way to an early spring, with vines bolstered by ample sunlight. Summer ensued with measured warmth, devoid ofthe commonplace punctuations of extreme heat. This uniformity in climate contributed to the uniform excellence with which the Pinot Noir grapes reached their zenith come harvest.

The magnificent, healthy medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1990 Richebourg has stupendous depth and complexity to its dark fruit-dominated aromas. Soy and hoisin sauces, cherries, and raspberries can be discerned in its deep, medium-to-full-bodied character. This satin-textured wine remains youthfully vibrant and should benefit from additional cellaring. Projected maturity: 2005-2010+.
