An Oenological Odyssey: Investing in Liquid History

It would be remiss not to mention the climatic trials that besieged Burgundy in 2013, from a hesitant start in spring to a tumultuous summer, concluding however in an unexpected grace period during harvest. This ‘trial by fire’ has gifted the 2013 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru with an indisputable character - a mesh of persistence and elegance.

The Chapelle Chambertin from Ponsot greets the connoisseur with poise, revealing layers of dark cherry and ripe raspberry suffused with labyrinthine earthy nuances. The wine’s ethereal bouquet is entwined with hints of rose petals and subtle spices, an olfactory pursuit both intricate and profoundly satisfying.

The 2013 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru (planted at the same time as the Griotte incidentally) has a very pure, mineral-drive bouquet that has a touch more delineation than the Griotte at the moment. The palate is structured and very focused: real energy and tension here with a crisp, tense finish that lingers long in the mouth. This might very well turn out to be one of Laurent Ponsot’s best 2013 Grand Crus.
