Opus One v.s. Dominus

Opus One released its 2014 vintage on Place de Bordeaux while Dominus 2014 went into the market through some other channels. Though both produced in Napa Valley, the two wines are using different price strategies.

Dominus produces only 5,000 cases annually and builds its price upon limited offerings. On the contrary, Opus One produces 25,000 cases every year and draws on the wider global market.

Yet in recent ten vintages, though Dominus boasts higher WA scores, Opus has generally achieved a better market price. Apart from the access to international market brought by Place de Bordeaux, Opus One's success stems in no small part from its well-established brand.

Speaking from an investment perspective, buyers could find some good value in Dominus 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 or Opus One 2010, 2012 and 2014.
