Three further releases mark the end of the Bordeaux 2017 campaign – two of which will appear particularly attractive to buyers.

Clerc Milon has been released at €50.40 per bottle ex-negociant. Liv-ex notes that the label’s pricing shows a strong positive correlation between price and age, and therefore the 2017’s opening price represents good value – particularly as the Clerc Milon index – which tracks the price movements of the last 10 physical vintages – has also outperformed the wider market over the past three years. The index is up 82% compared to the Bordeaux 500 which is up 33% over the same period.

Le Pin 2017 – one of the costlier vintages of the campaign – has been released at €1,200 per bottle ex-negociant, down 33% on the 2016 release of €1,800. Despite the high price tag, Liv-ex’s fair value methodology puts the release price below Le Pin’s pricing trend line, so this one represents an exciting opportunity for fans of the label.

Finally, Ausone 2017 has been released at €480 per bottle ex-negociant, down 18.4% on 2016 (€588). The wine has been praised by critics, receiving 94-96 points from Neal Martin and 97-99 from Lisa Perotti-Brown, but the release comes with a 20% premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Buyers looking for value might instead consider the similarly-scored 2014, which is available for over £1,000 less than the 2017.
