Small gains for Liv-ex 100 in May

By

The Liv-ex 100 gained 0.5% in May, closing on 311.7. Despite lagging during the first quarter of the year the index has now posted gains for two consecutive months, and secondary market activity has remained on course despite the En Primeur campaign.

Screaming Eagle has performed particularly well lately, with the 2013 vintage taking this month’s title of top riser, up 18.5%.

Bordeaux only made one appearance in the top five risers, with Lafite Rothschild 2000 up 6.3%.

Montrose 2010 was the worst performer this month, down 5%. As Liv-ex notes, the wine, which was given 100 points by Robert Parker, has always been cheaper than the 2009, which also boasts a perfect Parker score. Last year, Neal Martin retasted both wines and awarded 98 points to the 2009 and 99 points to the 2010, so it clearly remains a revered vintage despite its tumble on the index.
