The autumn sales season is now well underway, with two sales by Sotheby’s in London this week realising a total of £2,785,385.

The first sale, dubbed ‘The Collection of Perfection’, realised £1.6m and featured cases of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2000 (with one making £42,350), Chateau Haut Brion 1989, Domaine Leroy’s 2011 Richebourg, Domaine Armand Rousseau's 2005 Clos St Jacques and the 2010 Chambertin.

The second auction – a wider fine and rare sale – made £1.1m. Top lots included magnums of 1989 Petrus, and a Balthazar of Giacomo Conterno’s 1955 Barolo Riserva Monfortino, which realised £19,360, marking an unusually high figure for an Italian wine at a major auction. The best-performing lot, however, was a rare 12-bottle case of Quinta do Noval’s 1963 Nacional, which went for £45,980.

Sotheby’s next auctions take place on 29 and 30 September in Hong Kong.
