Last week Liv-ex announced the biggest Bordeaux 2016 risers from the 50 wines represented by the Bordeaux 500, now it’s revealed the top performers outside of the index.

The top riser – the Left Bank’s Carmes Haut Brion – has skyrocketed a dramatic 74.3% since release. As Liv-ex notes, the brand was the number one price performer in the Liv-ex Power 100, despite not making overall rankings.

Canon has also done well, rising 68.7%. However, the closest followers – Armailhac, Alter Ego Palmer and Pavie Decesse – have risen just 5.1%, 3.2% and 2.7% respectively.

The Union des Grands Crus hosted a trade tasting of the 2016 vintage in London yesterday. As Liv-ex says, critics are expected to publish their in-bottle reviews over the next few months. Historically, any dramatic changes to the barrel score have an immediate impact on price, particularly to those wines with upgrades, so we can expect activity soon.
