Domaine de Chevalier 2001
Tasting Notes Domaine de Chevalier 2001
Deep ruby/purple-colored with classic aromas of smoke, earth, black cherries, and creme de cassis, this elegant, layered 2001 possesses outstanding depth and richness as well as impeccable finesse, well-integrated wood, and a long, concentrated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016.
Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On horizontal. This has a light, innocuous bouquet that would benefit from a little more vigour. Undergrowth, some slightly mulchy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, cedar and tobacco to the fore, good acidity, nicely balanced on the austere finish. Not a long-term wine and I wish the nose had more chutzpah because the palate is very appealing. However much I want to like this more...I just think this could have been better. Tasted March 2011.
