2013 Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere, Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux

The esteemed estates of Saint-Emilion are no strangers to the climatic whimsy of the Bordeaux region; indeed, the vintners here craft wines that boldly express the essence of each year. The remarkable 2013 vintage at Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere from Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere stands as a testament to the resilience and artistry of its makers in a year that threw several challenges their way.

Stalwart Elegance in the Face of Adversity

There's no doubt that 2013 was a year for Bordeaux that demanded resolve and precision in the vineyard. A cool, wet spring delayed flowering and prompted vigour-control measures while a somewhat capricious summer required meticulous canopy management. Yet, it is precisely these conditions that have sculpted a 2013 Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere which deftly balances freshness with maturity, vivacity with silkiness.

Refined Complexity: A Vintage Specific Treasure

The 2013 Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere reveals an enchanting bouquet that sets it apart from its siblings. Poised aromas of dark cherry and cassis interlace with an earthy truffle undertone, hinting at its specific aging trajectory. The intricate flavours unfurl elegantly on the palate. Ripples of red fruit harmonise with subtle oak influences, all underpinned by that classic Saint-Emilion limestone minerality.

It’s a wine that offers a complexity which behoves careful consideration for discerning investors engaged in the fine wine market. With each sip, one appreciates the expert vinification techniques which ensured this vintage soared above expectations considering the conditions of the year.

In summary, the 2013 Chateau Canon-la-Gaffeliere encapsulates an extraordinary narrative of fortitude and finesse—a narrative that not only reinforces its investment allure but also promises an evolved and refinery tasting experience for those who decide to uncork this robust yet nuanced vintage.

The 2013 Canon la Gaffelière has a pretty nose in the context of the vintage: no under-ripeness here and nicely defined with scents of black cherries, iodine, violet and cedar. The palate is soft and supple on the entry with light tannin, a touch of mocha tinging the red and black fruit, leading to a structured finish that is simple but lingers in satisfying fashion. This easy-going Saint Emilion should provide a decade's worth of pleasure.
