Cos d'Estournel 2007
Tasting Notes Cos d'Estournel 2007
Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. The Cos d’Estournel 2007 does not quite match the promise out of barrel, but Jean-Guillaume has certainly crafted a commendable wine. It displays good lift on the nose with very pure blackberry and raspberry coulis intermixed with graphite, underlying mineralite coming through with aeration. The palate has a peppery entry, fine tannins and good weight, cohesive with lovely ripe tertiary flavours towards the finish. Very fine. Tasted January 2011.
A beautiful wine with 13.4% natural alcohol, this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of cassis, incense, charcoal, and subtle oak, round, generously endowed flavors, medium to full body, silky tannin, and surprising depth and length. It can be drunk now and over the next 12-15 years.
