The 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques has a gorgeous, heart-warming bouquet of cranberry leaf, wilted rose petals and subtle tertiary scents that are very delineated and focused. The pedigree of the vineyard comes through here. The palate is medium-bodied with a vibrant, vivacious entry, smooth in texture, quite succulent for a Clos Saint-Jacques with candied orange peel on the youthful and stylish finish. While it is not the greatest wine that Jean-Marie has ever overseen, this 2006 is doling out so much drinking pleasure, even if I would be inclined to afford it another couple of years in bottle.
