Unveiling the 1997 Vintage Charms

The 1997 expression reflects an intriguing confluence of ripeness and verve. There's a harmony in this chardonnay, a sublime balance between lush fruit notes and a poised acidity that renders it utterly age-worthy. A bouquet suffused with honeysuckle, toasted almonds, and a hint of vanilla creates an initial tapestry of aromas that evolve into deeper complexities in the glass - think preserved citrus and a whisper of flint stone.

Upon tasting, the palate is greeted with generosity. A rounded texture offers layers of yellow apple and brioche, subtly complemented by the freshness that is a hallmark of Domaine Leflaive’s precise winemaking. And now, with years in bottle, this 1997 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet displays tertiary notes that connoisseurs seek - a hint of beeswax and dried apricot that gracefully waltz amidst its mineral undertones.

The investment potential of this noble wine from such an extraordinary vintage should not be underestimated. Its remarkable capacity for nuanced evolution over time positions it as a standout opportunity for collectors who anticipate harmonious maturation. The 2000 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is drinking very well today, wafting from the glass with aromas of warm bread, ripe pears, citrus oil, mandarin, dried white flowers and a delicate top note of iodine. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and open-knit, with lively acids, a fleshy and moderately concentrated core and a nicely defined finish. From a vintage characterized by generous yields and an early harvest, the 2000 Chevalier's supple, generous and expressive personality is typical of the year. Now is a great moment to drink it. By the numbers, this attained 14% alcohol and a finished pH of 3.32.
