1995 Vosne les Brulees from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

Domaine Leroy's Burgundian tapestry is one of unparalleled depth and complexity, and the 1995 Vosne les Brulees is no exception. As a vintage wrought with challenges, 1995 delivered wines that encapsulated the tenacity and brilliance of Burgundy's vintners.

A Vintage's Voice Echoes in the Glass

The year 1995 was marked by climatic vagaries, yet the resilience of Domaine Leroy's vineyards was manifest splendidly in their Vosne les Brulees. That year was typified by a late blossom yet an unexpectedly accelerated ripening period that necessitated judicious attention to timing – a feat Lalou Bize-Leroy, the venerable owner and winemaker, managed with notable splendour.

Tasting Notes: A Confluence of Terroir and Time

Now over a quarter-century old, the 1995 Vosne les Brulees from Domaine Leroy intrigues as it unfurls in the glass, revealing layers of tertiary development while still clutching to vestiges of its primary fruit character. On the nose, one discerns a refined bouquet, where once-boisterous red fruit aromatics now softly whisper alongside notes of sous-bois and fine leather. The palate echoes these scents, delivering a sublime texture interwoven with a tapestry of dried cherry, hints of truffle, and a mesmeric spice finish evidencing the divine alchemy of wine and wood ageing.

Fine Wine Investment: Gauging Prestige and Potential

An examination of this 1995 vintage underscores its merit within an investor's portfolio. Its scarcity combined with Domaine Leroy's esteemed reputation augments its allure. Furthermore, for discerning investors and collectors who eschew fleeting trends in favour of pedigreed provenance, the 1995 Vosne les Brulees embodies an illustrious chapter in Burgundy’s vinous narrative.

In conclusion, the 1995 Vosne les Brulees from Domaine Leroy stands as a testament to Burgundy's resilience; it is a bountiful harvest from adversity that has matured into an elegant confluence of time and terroir. The vintage not only entices the senses but presents an alluring proposition for astute investors seeking to diversify with finesse.

From a vineyard I adore for its forward, sultry style, the Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees (25 cases) reveals an enticing and exotic nose of spices and berries and a beautifully silky-textured palate crammed with lush red fruits and Asian spices. Attractive, opulent and sensual, this medium-to-full bodied wine should be at its peak between 2000-2010. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. I have included the cases production for the wine in order for readers to appreciate the rarity of Leroy's wines. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Raphael, CA; tel. (415) 485-1800.
