2011 Sorì San Lorenzo from Gaja, Italy

Immerse yourself in the compelling tale steeped in the bottle of the 2011 Sorì San Lorenzo from Gaja, a beckoning siren in the sea of fine wines from Italy. To understand and appreciate its essence is to embark on an odyssey to the heart of Italia's Langhe region — a journey that unveils not merely a wine but a panorama of Piedmontese heritage.

An exquisite vintage steeped in tradition

The 2011 Sorì San Lorenzo sweeps across your palate like an aria sung at Milan's La Scala. This Nebbiolo is a quintessential representation of the Langhe's unique terroir where climate, soil, and human touch harmonize to manifest great vintages every year.

The year 2011 was one characterised by a warmer-than-average Spring and Summer, which allowed an early harvest yielding grapes with ideal sugar ripeness contrasted by pleasant acidity. The resulting wine is an opus that sings of sun-kissed cherries and plums, evocatively layered with whispers of spices, truffle, and balsamic tones woven into its compelling fabric.

The allure of Sorì San Lorenzo for wine collectors

As investors with discerning tastes, an opportunity to invest in fine wines such as the 2011 Sorì San Lorenzo presents itself as an irresistible proposition. Gaja, the producer lauded for their consistent excellence over decades, render this vintage a reliable addition to any sophisticated portfolio.

This particular Nebbiolo is an illustration of why wines from Gaja have attained such eminence over time. Its ageing potential and expected appreciation make it an intriguing candidate for long-term investment.

Nebbiolo from an Excellent Provenance

The 2011 Sorì San Lorenzo illustrates the magic that ensues when the Nebbiolo grape converges with optimal climatic conditions and masterful winemaking. Crafted with love in the hands of Gaja, this wine is like a sonnet dedicated to its home region.

Powerful, yet elegant; poetic, yet tangible—such is the 2011 Sorì San Lorenzo. A bottle that doesn’t merely hold Nebbiolo, but a tableau vivant of the Piedmont's soul — embodying a vision, an artistry, a dedication that transcends the realm of simple vinification to manifest as one of the notable fine wines from Italy.

The exciting 2011 Sori San Lorenzo is a wine of enormous beauty and grace. Gaia Gaja classifies her three single vineyard Langhe Nebbiolo wines as follows: Costa Russi is “flowers;” Sori Tildin is “fruit;” and San Lorenzo is “plant” (with more structure and a more compact feel). San Lorenzo does indeed boast a strong mineral component of pencil shavings and crushed granite, followed by red cherry and soft spice. The wine’s tannins start off harder than the other wines, but soften with time. Drink: 2018-2040. I have some happy news to report from the exciting world of Angelo Gaja. The estate that was notoriously difficult (if not impossible) to visit for those outside the wine trade is now opening its doors to the public. There is a steep entrance fee, but the scheme makes perfect sense in my option. Any wine lover can make an appointment to tour the estate and sample wine for up to 300 euros a person. The money must be paid to charity as none of the proceeds go to Gaja. If you have a favorite non-profit organization, make a donation in that amount. Once you send receipt of payment to Gaja’s tasting room staff, your visit will be granted. It sounds like a fair exchange to me. Importer: Terlato Wines International, www.terlatowines.com
