A soulful expression of an exquisite year, this wine encapsulates all the finer points that make Rhone wines an excellent choice for savvy investors.

Celebrating Rhone's climatic charm in a bottle

In particular, the 2012 iteration carries the unique signature of that year’s season - an especially protracted and volatile climatic journey. Hurled from the bitter assaults of winter frost to a sweltering summer, this wine captures the tempered resilience of its Syrah grapes, reflecting in an arresting dance between robustness and grace.

Bearing witness to this climatic drama, the 2012 Cote Rotie Cuvee Belle Helene presents a perfumed bouquet, with smoky nuances seamlessly woven into a tapestry of black raspberry and kirsch. Comingling with these primary notes are profound undercurrents of violet essence and graphite.

A stage for an auspicious performance

The narrative unfolds on the palate as potent dark fruit profiles wrestle with stern tannins - an engaging duel which makes for captivating drinking now, but hints at enviable longevity. Its time-honoured tradition in European oak rounds off this performance in a gracefully wistful denouement.

This masterpiece serves as a testament to what the heroic little Rotie can achieve even in the face of capricious seasons - a must-have for portfolio diversification for those with a penchant for Rhone’s productions. 2012 was perhaps fastidious in its conditions, but the Cote Rotie Cuvee Belle Helene from Domaine M&S Ogier D'Ampuis rose splendidly to the challenge.

A wine that could flirt with perfection at maturity, the 2012 Côte Rôtie Cuvée Belle Helene is the polar opposite of the perfumed, finesse styled Lancement and offers a dense, powerful, masculine personality. Inky-colored, full-bodied, sensationally concentrated and still balanced and seamless, it offers a serious bouquet of dark fruits (cassis, black raspberries), crushed rock, charcoal, graphite and wood smoke. The more rounded style of the 2012 vintage gives this a touch of upfront charm, but it really needs 6-7 years of cellaring and will have three decades or more of longevity.
