2001 Dominus Estate

By Dominus

2001 Dominus Estate, California, USA

A truly divine culmination of skilled viticulture and exceptional terroir, the 2001 Dominus Estate from Dominus offers a testament to the sheer opulence possible with fine wines from USA. Nestling within the lush confines of Napa Valley, the expertise of the Dominus craftsmen comes to the fore in this perceivably austere vintage that surreptitiously hides its power in plain sight.

Characteristics of an Unforgettable Vintage

The 2001 vintage introduced a compelling blend of varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The weather of that year was primarily warm and dry, contributing to a uniquely complex flavor profile. This vintage held layers of rewards for patient investors: it matured beautifully, developing over time to showcase a spectrum of flavors from black truffle to Chinese five-spice.

The greatness of the 2001 Dominus Estate is in its balance; its strength lies hidden behind a royal velvet drape - opulent yet avoiding flamboyance. The wine has tremendous body and structure, yet it remains ultimately polished and refined. It's truly a harmony of contradictions - seemingly reserved at first glance yet inherently full-bodied.

An Irreplaceable Asset

The sophisticated oenophiles certainly do not need more convincing that the 2001 Dominus Estate from Dominus is an irreplaceable asset in any well-curated wine collection. It stands as a stalwart symbol of wine investing wisdom - representing not just an investment in liquid luxury, but also a cherished memory in-bottle from an outstanding vintage year.

Both in quality and market value, it comfortably rubs shoulders with the more illustrious French Grand Cru. If ever you were searching for a representation of the height of New World winemaking, then one needn't look beyond the 2001 Dominus Estate.

A brilliant showing for Christian Moueix’s well-known Napanook Vineyard, the 2001 Dominus is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. A classic in the making, this is a flawless, seamless example of elegant, complex Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that possesses a Bordeaux-like personality. This gorgeous, sexy, opulent, dense ruby/purple-colored wine reveals sweet caramel, mocha, creme de cassis and kirsch notes intermixed with a hint of espresso roast as well as underbrush. Ripe, long and full-bodied with well-integrated tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood, this prodigious 2001 is drinkable now and over the next 25+ years given this estate’s longevity track record. A virtually perfect wine, it is one of the most complex 2001s at present. Tel. (707) 944-8954; Fax (707) 944-0547
