By Dominus

2013 Dominus Estate by Dominus, Napa Valley, USA

Embodying the power and finesse of its provenance, the 2013 Dominus Estate from Dominus is a true testament to Napa Valley's grandeur. In a year favourably marked by its near-perfect growing season and steady harvest, Dominus has crafted a wine that silently roars.

Breathing Life into the Vines

In 2013, the Napa Valley was blessed with an enviably balanced growing season. A mild spring followed by a warm summer allowed for an optimum setting that finesse-driven wines from USA can thrive in. The weather perfection extended into autumn, permitting meticulous grape-picking that saw an unhurried harvest unfold.

The product of this heavenly synthesis between climatic generosity and viticultural dexterity is distinctly tangible in this Dominus offering. Each sip reveals eloquently about its birth year—shaping it as a lustrous investment opportunity in the fine wine world.

Napa’s Noble Virtuosity

The 2013 Dominus Estate from Dominus reflects this magic nib at the heart of an elegantly structured blend predominantly featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc chipping in their own accents. The depth and complexity allude to both ancestry and upbringing—the varietal composition a nod towards Bordeaux, while the boldness and longevity are unmistakably Californian.

A Concerto of Flavours and Fragrances

This wine is provocative—setting forth a concerto of intense dark fruit aromas underscored by nuances of tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, it illustrates a harmonious balance between tannic structure and lively acidity – a testimony to a superior growing season of 2013. Elements of dark berries, spices, and earthy undertones showcase a tantalising testimony to the grandeur of this Dominus creation.

Just as the great symphonies of history linger in the corners of our consciousness, so will the 2013 Dominus Estate from Dominus for the fine wine investor seeking remarkable wines with compelling stories to tell.

The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine, with very low yields of only 3,500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, offers up notes of cedar wood, forest floor, loamy soil and oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Very opaque purple in color, super-pure and intense, this wine has low acidity, but ripe, noticeable tannins. This is a 30- to 40-year wine and a profound effort from this famous vineyard in Yountville. Drink it over the next 40+ years.
