By Domaine Fourrier

2013 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier, Burgundy, France

In the expansive tapestry of Burgundian winemaking, few threads possess the luster of the 2013 vintage, especially when woven by the skilled hands at Domaine Fourrier. The 2013 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from this artisanal producer stands as a testament to the resilience and subtlety capable within a year that challenged vignerons with its climatic caprices.

The Subtle Alchemy of a Cool Year

As with all narratives of alchemy, the transformation of grape to grand vin in 2013 was an intricate dance with nature. A cooler year across Burgundy meant a tempered approach in the vineyards and cellars, diurnal temperature shifts coaxing out an intimacy of flavor in the pinot noir grapes specific to Griottes Chambertin. This is an eloquent reminder that fine wine investment is as much about embracing these delicate vintages as it is the blockbuster years.

On opening, the 2013 Griottes Chambertin from Domaine Fourrier reveals itself in modest whispers before unfurling a tapestry of nuanced red and dark fruit aromatics, interlacing with earth and a notable mineral backbone. This structure—a scaffold of fine-grained tannins—is draped with layers of cherry and raspberry notes, enhanced by an underlying current of spice and floral undertones, thanks to the remarkable limestone-clay soils unique to this plot.

An Investment in Elegance

For investors seeking finesse over flamboyance, this wine communicates its pedigree through quiet confidence. Unlike more opulent years, the 2013 vintage crafts its message through subtlety and longevity; its crescendo unfolds patiently in the cellar. The cooler provenance grants this Grand Cru a longevity that will reward those who afford it time.

Amidst the narrative of 2013 being overshadowed by surrounding vintages lies the counterpoint: complexity born from adversity. And so, this particular cuvée from Domaine Fourrier's cherished terroir becomes a compelling chapter within a connoisseur's portfolio—an articulate expression of pinot noir in harmonious balance with its storied origin.

In summing up, the 2013 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier is less about immediate decadence and more on becoming an enduring classic. With a flourishing future ahead, it's a wise chapter to add to any serious wine investor's anthology.

The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a glorious bouquet with dark cherries, blueberry and stony aromas - taciturn at first, but soaring from the glass after a couple of minutes. There is a lovely wilted-violet scent here. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, wonderful tension and an "H.D." finish that sticks in your memory. Utterly divine.
