1996 Vosne Romanee les Brulees from Domaine Meo-Camuzet, Burgundy, France
A vintage of considerable renown, the 1996 Vosne Romanee les Brulees from Domaine Meo-Camuzet stands as a profound representation of the harmony between a legendary terroir and an auspicious year. My experience with this illustrious nectar has been one defined by enigmatic complexity and rewards that have unfolded richly over time.
Magisterial Vintage, Majestic Wine
The 1996 vintage in Burgundy has long been celebrated for its sterling quality—a direct result of an initially tumultuous start to the growing season which led to an impeccably balanced harvest. The weather gods smiled upon the region post-summer storms, granting meticulous vignerons like Meo-Camuzet the foundation for sculpting compelling wines.
A Tapestry of Intricacy and Elegance
The magic of 1996 as expressed through the Vosne Romanee les Brulees is nothing short of a terrestrial ballet of sensory impressions. A deep ruby glow hints at the tapestry within: a core suffused with layers of dark fruits, whispers of worn leather intermingling with hints of sweet spices and earthy undertones—all hallmarks lending gravitas that only old-world viticulture can bequeath.
This particular cuvée displays an astute balance—a taut line between robust structure and an ether-like finesse. The tannins remain persuasive but genteel, speaking to the astute ageing potential which makes this wine a serious contender for wine investment portfolios.
The intellectual vivacity and eloquence of this nectar make it not merely a drink but a dialogue with time itself—an attribute making it exceptionally sought after among Burgundy connoisseurs and investors alike.
Embarking on a Journey to Investment Eminence
In conclusion, the 1996 Vosne Romanee les Brulees from Domaine Meo-Camuzet encapsulates the triumph over climatic adversity inherent to this vintage. It promises an investment trajectory as enduring as its palate is enthralling. As we adhere to the adage 'patience bears sweet fruit,' let us not forget that in the world of fine wine, particularly when referring to exceptional vintages such as this one, time weaves complexity into every bottle—a narrative indelibly tied to tangible value for the astute investor.

The 1996 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Brulees has a tertiary, mushroom-tinged bouquet with touches of violet petals and truffle developing in the glass. The palate is feminine, nicely focused with tart red cherries and just a hint of white pepper. Elegant right to the finish, though perhaps missing the persistency of other vintages, this is drinking well now, not tomorrow. Tasted November 2013.
