2011 Redigaffi
By Tua Rita
2011 Redigaffi from Tua Rita, Tuscany, Italy
The 2011 Redigaffi from Tua Rita is a sultry symphony of an Italian merlot that embodies the charismatic charm of the Tuscan terroir perfectly. An eminent vintage indeed. With four decades under my belt, I have had the pleasure of watching this wine grow into its niche as one of Italy's plush and opulent merlots. Throughout those years, there have been several vintages that commanded reverence but the 2011 release merits a special note.
Tuscan treasure for investors
Located in Suvereto, an enchantingly lesser-known sub-zone of Tuscany, Tua Rita has crafted a name for itself by delivering some of the most sought-after fine wines from Italy in recent years. Their commitment to ensuring impeccable vinification practices contribute to the lofty reputation garnered over time. Precisely such attributes render the 2011 Redigaffi a worthwhile addition to any wine investment portfolio.
A vintage painting a canvas of complexity
The year 2011 was blessed with ample sunshine and hot summer days, resulting in ripe and concentrated fruit; characteristics that are vividly echoed through the rich garnet hue and dense concentration of this extraordinary vintage. Predominantly merlot, this wine carries its voluptuous personality with utter grace.
This quintessentially Tuscan merlot displays grandeur without overbearing intensity, reveling in flavoursome independence: rich black cherries carry the mantle seasoned by perfumed floral notes. A tight backbone of minerality, reminiscent of rocky Tuscan soils, underlies these effects, endowing the blend with exquisite balance and structure that promises to age gracefully.
The 2011 Redigaffi is undoubtedly an embodiment of Tua Rita's savour faire, a swaggering testament to their winemaking prowess. For the sophisticated investor who appreciates our penchant for Italian viticultural elegance, this vintage emerges as an exciting wine investment opportunity par excellence.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2011 Redigaffi (one of Italy’s iconic Merlots) is a little shy at first and needs a few extra minutes to warm in the glass. Once it does, it bursts open with sweet fruit, blackberry, dark leather and Oriental spice. The wine is beautifully balanced and enormously expressive. It hits the high notes and the low ones with tip-top precision. I loved the purity of the sweet tobacco and crushed white pepper you get on the seductively long finish. It’s a baby now, and needs more aging time. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035. Stefano Frascolla and Tua Rita have almost single-handedly put Suvereto on Italy’s winemaking map. His latest releases are nothing short of spectacular. Importer: Winebow Inc.; www.winebow.com
