An Investable Chronicle from a Storied Estate

As a cornerstone for astute wine investors, the 2019 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse reveals a medley of ripe red and black fruits with an underlying ribbon of spice and graphite—echoes of its chiselled limestone terroir. This reverential treatment of fruit is etched into every decanter, promising a trajectory of maturation that will surely intrigue collectors and drinkers alike.

The tannins speak of meticulous cultivation, presenting themselves as both assertive yet silken—a vivid counterpoint to the wine's lush vibrancy. With time, expect this marvel to unfurl further into an opulent pageant of flavour and texture seldom matched by its peers.

To crystalize my thoughts on the 2019 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse from Chateau Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse—a wine that invokes the quintessence of its prestigious appellation—I foresee it holding a luminous place in cellars attuned to the splendour of Saint-Emilion's finest offerings. Composed of 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) was harvested from the 24th of September to the 7th of October. Yields were 45 hectoliters per hectare this year with about 60% of production going into the grand vin. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose is deceptively forward to begin, giving a wonderful intensity of Morello cherries, wild blueberries and boysenberries scents, soon unfurling to reveal more and more layers: pencil lead, cast-iron pan, wilted roses, oolong tea and charcoal with a hint of garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate is charged with energetic, crunchy black fruits, framed by firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing very long and minerally. If this delivers on its promise, it should be very long-lived indeed! About 2,000 cases are anticipated to be made.
