An expression of an extraordinary year
Back in 2004, Rhône was blessed with optimal weather conditions that led to a grape harvest full of healthy and perfectly ripe Syrah grapes. Favorable weather, marked by a mild summer followed by timely rainfall in August, resulted in robust ripening conditions. The climate provided the thrust for sterling grape development, ultimately resulting in the memorable 2004 vintage we are discussing today.
Taste that captures the essence of Rhône
The ensuing vintage from Domaine M&S Ogier D'Ampuis was nothing less than an exquisite dance between fruit and structure. The 2004 Côte Rôtie Lancement is distinguished by its ruby-purplish hue and bouquet of red berries, blackcurrant, spice and mineral undertones - a fascinating amalgam revealing the plot's granitic soils. The palate is finely balanced with fruit-forward expressiveness juxtaposed with savoury tannins for structure, culminating in a taste reminiscent of its extraordinary origins.
Fruits of long-term investment
This low production single-vineyard specimen targets those seeking depth, complexity and splendid aging potential in their investments. With each passing year, it unfolds an intricate dance of evolving layers - promising an excellent return on patience and judicious investment.

Scores and tasting notes
Sadly, there are only 100 or so cases of the 2004 Cote Rotie Lancement. This wine is pure and reveals gorgeous floral, black cherry, and raspberry notes intermixed with some darker fruits in the mouth. It is medium-bodied, has zesty acidity, sweet tannin, and beautiful elegance and length. This is a lovely wine that should drink well for up to a decade. The Ogiers are a wonderful family, and it’s gratifying to see the extraordinary quality of wine that continues to emerge from them. The son Stephane has taken over fully from his dad, who seems to be inching into full retirement, and continues to push the estate to higher and higher levels of quality.
