Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. The Pavillon Rouge appears to be on an upward trajectory in bottle. Here it has a very delicate, well-defined bouquet with black cherries, mulberry, minerals and blueberry. This is so delicate and pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, tensile and poised, tightly coiled towards the finish but a lot of energy in this Margaux. This evinces succinct winemaking allowing the terroir to shine through. Tasted January 2012.

Delicate and refined with aromas and flavors of berries, cedar, and tobacco. Medium to full bodied, fine tannins and fruity, chocolaty finish. Second wine of Margaux. Try it in two years.

The 2008 Pavillon Rouge didn’t show quite as well as I had hoped, but is still an elegant, berry-scented, spicy, soft Pavillon Rouge with good depth, sweet tannins, and an attractive finish. It can be drunk now or cellared or 12-15 years.
