By Chateau Lynch Bages

2014 Lynch Bages from Chateau Lynch Bages, Pauillac, Bordeaux

The 2014 Lynch Bages from the prestigious Chateau Lynch Bages is a testament to the resilience of a vintage that can only be described as a sleeper. This year presented vintners with challenges; a temperamental start gave the impression of an inglorious season. However, fortunes favour the brave and patient, resulting in a harvest that bore wine of hidden strength and complexity.

Profile of Potency: The Embodiment of Elegance

When approaching this wine, one is immediately struck by its dark, nearly opaque hue, suggesting a depth that Pauillac connoisseurs will find characteristically compelling. The 2014 Lynch Bages maintains an alluring nose, disjointedly atmospheric in its entanglement of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and the earthy undertones expected of its terroir.

The marvel lies in the palate: here is where the 2014 vintage distinguishes itself – a robust assembly of ripened tannins married seamlessly with a vivacious acidity. This dichotomy produces an unexpected vibrancy amidst the wine's inherent solidity. It's not just structured; it dazzles with balance, offering hints of spice and graphite that are all too willing to converse with the more traditional notes.

The Maturation Metamorphosis: Crafting A Wine Worthy of Patience

A glance at its maturation reveals another layer of intrigue. The 2014 Lynch Bages has engaged in an exquisite pas de deux with its oak aging process. Unlike younger or more impetuous vintages, it knows when to speak and when to listen, offering investors a wine that gracefully integrates its elements—a signifier of unmistakable potential in terms of aging capacity and evolutionary promise.

Investment value in fine wines such as this relies not just on name or region but upon vintage distinction, and here the 2014 Lynch Bages shines. It is an investable gem from Pauillac – poised for those who have foresight in accumulation and patience in provisions.

The Expert Verdict: Invest in Understated Excellence

To encapsulate: The 2014 vintage articulates its worth through subtlety. It may not shout with the immediacy of other years, yet it communicates complexity and future potential to any investor's portfolio. Fine-tuned through adversity and crafted with attention to detail, this wine casts an assured nod to longevity and refinement — attributes that bellwether well for those looking to enrich their holdings with astute selections from Bordeaux's liquid tapestry.

The 2014 Lynch Bages was actually similar to the 2014 Pichon Baron on the nose: tight and surly at first, demanding a lot of coaxing from the glass. It eventually opens up with a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar and tobacco, gaining more harmony and intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite linear and focused at the moment, precise if just needing a little more body and depth to evolve on the straight-laced finish. Give this Pauillac 4-5 years in bottle and it is likely to repay you.
