2001 Le Dome
By Le Dome
2001 Le Dome from Le Dome, Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux
In a communion of soil and season, the 2001 vintage of Le Dome from the hallowed vineyards of Saint-Emilion stands one of the region's sterling expressions of oenological artistry. Its emergence was tendered by a season marked by climatic kindness, with sufficient warmth and light brushing the Bordeaux sky to usher in a harvest of balanced ripeness and complexity.
Refined Elegance: A Vintage Graced by Nature
The millennial charm of 2001 in Bordeaux draws us to praise its subtle brilliance, where less bombastic tannins allow for a display of refinement often shadowed in more assertive vintages. In tasting, the 2001 Le Dome reveals itself with grace — a tapestry woven with threads of ripe blackberry and plum interlacing with the earthy undertone characteristic of the vine's Cabernet Franc lineage. A whisper of truffle and tobacco grant an antique distinction, encapsulating the terroir’s narrative eloquently.
A Strategic Asset in Any Investment Portfolio
Investors take heed of the investment viability etched within this bottle — a vintage that has come to fruition like fine crystal — clear and lustrous. The 2001 Le Dome carries an alluring potential for ageing gracefully, an exquisite addition to any connoisseur’s cellar seeking both pleasure and prudent investment.
My palate recalls the enchanting moment of sipping this garnet-hued nectar, reminiscent of cherries cloaked in thyme, bearing an acidity that still pirouettes nimbly on the tongue. The oak's influence is judiciously exerted; it espouses rather than overpowers the fruit, enveloping each sip with dignity.
In summation, the 2001 vintage from Le Dome is thus a tapestry of nature's finery — an anthology in a bottle that continues to recite poetry to those fortunate enough to sample its splendour. It nestles with grace in a sanctum that espouses both legacy and future promise; a timeless relish for both palate and portfolio alike.Market price (USD)

A brilliant effort (along with the 2000, one of the finest I have yet tasted from this estate), this 1,000 case blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot is fashioned by Jonathan Malthus. Most of the Cabernet Franc emerges from a vineyard near Angelus. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a striking perfume of menthol, blueberries, red currants, and minerals. Elegant, concentrated, and ripe, but neither overly weighty nor excessively heady, it is a stylish, Burgundian-like, vivacious St.-Emilion with tremendous aromatic complexity and flavors. It should be at its finest in 2-3 years, and last for 14-15.
