A Vintage Defined by Precision and Grace
The climatic intricacies of the 2000 growing season in Burgundy bestowed an exceptional temperament upon the chardonnay grapes nurtured within the fabled confines of Montrachet. This particular year was marked by fluctuating patterns that called for sagacious vigilance in the vineyard. Fortunately, the adept vignerons at Domaine de la Romanee-Conti manifested their generations of wisdom to coax a harvest both bountiful and of profound quality.
The wine doesn’t just occupy the glass; it asserts command over it, presenting a golden hue that heralds its esteemed provenance. Austere yet generous, this vintage exudes an aromatic tête-à-tête between ripe stone fruits and a complex foundation of toasted almonds and crème pâtissière. In time, the allure of tertiary nuances—dried honeycomb and a faint echo of minerality—whisk the senses to the terroir's heart.

Lafon’s 2002 Meursault Charmes is exceptional. Its awesome aromatics display spiced oak, peach, apricot, and yellow plum scents. Medium to full-bodied, decadent, and expansive, this intense, decadent wine bursts on the palate with silky, powerful waves of spices and yellow fruits. Even though it has massive richness and a broad-shouldered, muscular character, this beauty also displays graceful elegance. Projected maturity: now-2013. Importers: Various including Classic Wine Imports, Boston, MA; tel. (617) 731-6644, and Beaune Imports.
