2010 Vosne Romanee La Colombiere from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy

In the tapestry of Burgundy vintages, the 2010 season at Vosne-Romanée stands out for the harmonious interplay between challenge and triumph. The wines hewn from this year’s intricate climatic pattern command respect, and none more so than the 2010 Vosne Romanee La Colombiere from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair.

The Vintage's Voice: Climactic Elegance Amidst Adversity

The 2010 vintage was a testament to the resilience and meticulous care of Burgundian vigneron. A cool, prolonged growing season with unanticipated bursts of summer heat instituted deep concentration within the berries, while unforeseen rains mandated vigilance against mould. Yet it is precisely these trials that sculpted the dimensional character of the 2010 La Colombiere.

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's prowess in cultivating and crafting from this delicate terroir is underscored in this vintage. One recognizes a choreography of elegance and intensity whereby earthy undertones align seamlessly with whispers of cherry and violet, all bound by a tannic structure that promises longevity—a desirable attribute for investors and collectors alike.

Investment Potential of a Prodigious Vintage

The 2010 Vosne Romanee La Colombiere is not merely an impeccable wine; it is an assertive statement about the endurance and adaptability of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's viniculture. Coupled with its finite production, this vintage carries a compelling investment narrative for those captivated by the allure of exceptional Burgundy treasures.

In summary, as this extraordinary wine continues its graceful ascent towards maturity, connoisseurs and investors will find their patience lavishly rewarded by the layered complexity of the 2010 La Colombiere – an indisputable jewel in the Liger-Belair coronet.

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee La Colombiere wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet red spices, mint and rosemary. It possesses gorgeous aromatic lift and sweet, intense perfume and a sensual personality that is totally irresistible. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s wines keep getting better. The improvement is less a reflection of the underlying vintages and more the result of the work the estate has done to convert their vineyards to biodynamic farming. These are some of the most unique and compelling wines being made anywhere in Burgundy. The house style emphasizes the weightless transparency, finesse and sweetness that only Pinot Noir (and perhaps Nebbiolo) is capable of. As good as the 2010s are, the 2009s have also turned out beautifully. I will report on those wines in the April issue.
