2000 Vieilles Vignes Francaises by Bollinger

Bollinger's prestigious old-vine cuvée vintages are always a treat, but their impeccable and monumental iteration, the 2000 Vieilles Vignes Francaises from Bollinger, truly stands in its own league. Its rarity lies in the fact that the vines are engrafted on American rootstock — a nod to tradition and a testament to Bollinger's scrupulous craftsmanship.

A Beacon from the Past Eclipsed by Tomorrow

The exclusive 2000 vintage captures the nuance on the fringe of the millennium’s close underlined by seasoned insight into future potentialities. This vintage exudes an elegant balance between age and progression, becoming an aspirational portfolio piece for discerning wine investors across the globe.

Unveiling an extravagant bouquet of honeyed apples, warm brioche, toasted almonds and fresh-cut peaches, this cuvée weaves a complex tapestry of aromas that transport you directly to Bollinger's vaults in Aÿ.

Distinction of 2000 Vintage and Investment Potential

The millennium vintage, known for its mild winter and summer heat spikes, has endowed this Bollinger with a most harmonious alliance of power and delicacy. Due to these climatic consistencies, the 2000 Vieilles Vignes Francaises carries a concentrated palate matched with effervescent finesse.

A wise investment decision lies within each bottle of this exquisite Champagne. The year 2000 represents not just a change in millennia but also a shift in agricultural practices at Bollinger, securing a lasting impact on the structure and complexity of its output. A veritable heirloom piece for any esteemed collection.

Notes on Conclusion and Terroir

In conclusion, sumptuous layers of white truffle, succulent fruit compote and gingerbread resonate within this enduring champagne; it is like tasting time itself. This remarkable blend seamlessly marries the specific terroir peculiarities of 2000 with Bollinger’s timeless savoir-faire resulting in a wine-worthy spectacle.

As one savours each sip of the 2000 Vieilles Vignes Francaises from Bollinger, we are reminded that fine wine is but a voyage through time expressing marvels of nature’s hand coupled with human endeavour. The 2000 Brut Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes Francaises emerges from the glass with an elegant, refined mousse that is captivating. Sweet, perfumed and layered, the 2000 VVF shows off superb grace and a long, vibrant finish. This is an especially elegant and understated version of this Champagne. My preference is to drink VVF before age 20. Bollinger’s VVF is one of Champagne’s rarest and most iconic wines. Just a few thousand bottles are made each year from Pinot Noir grafted onto pre-phylloxera rootstocks in Ay and Bouzy. This bottle was disgorged in July, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. This is a beautiful set of new releases from Bollinger, one of Champagne’s reference-point houses. The wines are aged in neutral oak barrels, while all of the reserve wines are aged in magnums, a painstaking procedure that must be seen to be truly appreciated. This year I didn’t taste the entry-level NV Special Cuvee or Brut Rose, but the Special Cuvee in particular is typically one of my favorite Champagnes in the $75 price range.
