1997 Sori Tildin
By Gaja
1997 Sorì Tildìn from Gaja, Piedmont, Italy
The 1997 Sorì Tildìn from Gaja is an embodiment of the legendary Italian viticulture, which showcases the prowess of traditional wine-making under the ardent supervision of Gaja - one of the leading producers of high-quality fine wines in Italy.
An unusual vintage, an unsurpassed deliverance
The 1997 vintage was truly distinctive - for it was a year that swelled with vivacious, ripe grapes, thanks to the ideal climatic conditions. The warmer spring hastened early bud break and flowering. Yet, it was the gradual shift to cooler temperatures and delicate showers during maturation that sculpted this vintage, enhancing the characteristic attributes of Nebbiolo grapes while retaining a benevolent acidity. What resulted was none other than the memorable 1997 Sorì Tildìn - a wine with a sublime equilibrium between vigour and elegance.
Tasting notes playing poetically on the palate
On pouring, the pastiche of hues from garnet core to orange hue at the edge proffers an inkling of its depth. The aromatics are sizeable yet harmonious – ripe black cherries and crushed violets interlace with subtle undertones of licorice and earthy truffle. As one would expect from Gaja's vineyards, there is complexity in every sip where tannins make their presence felt but are beautifully woven into this tapestry of flavours. A vinous investiture that starts robust and evolves into an incredibly long finish with nuances of black fruits and spice still tingling on your palate.
1997 Sorì Tildìn: Where investment meets indulgence
A bottle from such a vintage not only serves as a testament to the profound charisma of Italian winemaking but also carves a tantalising potential for investment. Unscathed by time, the 1997 Sorì Tildìn remains primed for maturation – a character that resonates well with savvy investors in search of wines that promise positive future growth.
Indeed, encapsulating the essence of Piedmont's Nebbiolo into a single bottle, the 1997 Sorì Tildìn from Gaja represents an investable artefact - a wine that not only rewards the enlightened palate but also paves the way for aspiring enophiles to the often undervalued glory of Italian fine wines.

The awesome 1997 Sori Tilden (10,000 bottles produced) is a candidate for perfection. The saturated purple color is followed by a dense, full-bodied wine possessing extraordinary vibrancy for such a heavyweight, muscular Nebbiolo. It offers a super-sweet entry, a boatload of glycerin, and notes of earth, licorice, cedar, blackberry and cherry liqueur, and a touch of blueberries. Extremely full, gorgeously pure, with a seamless texture, this spectacular 1997 will enjoy three decades of cellaring. A genius for sure, Angelo Gaja can not be faulted for what he puts in the bottle. This work of art is worth every cent it will fetch. Importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604-89000
