An Ode to the Grandeur of 2006 Vintage

A year celebrated for exceptional climatic conditions, 2006 stands tall in the annals of Tuscan wine history. A cool spring was superseded by an equally favorable summer that lavished just the right amount of sunlight to ensure optimal ripening. The excellent weather conditions of that year gave rise to grapes of impeccable maturity and balance, setting the stage for a vintage that parades a charming complexity and structure.

Suffused with an intoxicating bouquet of blackberries, cherries, propulsive spices and restrained oak, the 2006 Tignanello intertwines strength with elegance. Its arresting influence on the palate is underlined by an intense, focused core of ripe fruit juxtaposed with harmonious tannins. The finish is superbly persistent, exemplifying why a well-aged Tignanello is a raison d'être for every connoisseur.

The 2006 Tignanello is especially opulent in this vintage. Masses of dark red fruit, scorched earth and sweet oak emerge as this richly-textured Tignanello flows from the glass. The wine possesses superb density; all it needs is another few years to come together. Today it is remarkably vibrant and primary. Tignanello is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. From top to bottom this is a beautiful set of wines from Antinori. The estate’s 2006 Guado al Tasso, Tignanello and Solaia are all beautiful, even if they don’t appear to possess the elegance of the superb 2004s. Importer: Ste.
