The 2011 Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido

Known for conjuring wines that stand above both time and trend, the Tenuta San Guido estate yet again demonstrates its undeniable magnetism in the fine wine investment world with the captivating 2011 vintage of its crown jewel Sassicaia. In a year frequently defined by grandiose climatic swings, Tenuta San Guido meticulously commissioned nature's song into a lyrical mastery of grape and glass.

A Testament to Masters And Their Land

Hailing from the distinguished soils of Bolgheri, Tuscany, an area notable for gravitating towards the cultivation of Bordeaux varieties, this fine Italian wine is largely comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon and ably supported with a diligent touch of Cabernet Franc. The particular climatic conditions of 2011 beckoned an earlier harvest, resulting in the beautiful ballet between ripe fruit expressions and emboldened tannic structure.

An affirmative nod to Sassicaia lineage, the 2011 Sassicaia portrays an elegant yet intense visage. The nose enthrals with lavish lacing of blackcurrant and cherry that do not merely pause at the surface but rather sink deeper, unveiling glimpses into a realm of small wild berries intermeshed with the subtle allure of eucalyptus.

A Flavor Path to Remember

Framing this ensemble perfectly, a foundation of minerality underscores the bold fruit notes without muting their melody. Further on the palate, each sip delivers warmth and finessed firmness, a balancing act of acidity seamlessly intertwining with neatly edged tannins, lingering long-enough to leave one recalling those last moments long after they have passed.

In consideration of all elements culminating in this splendid vintage, the 2011 Sassicaia paves a persuasive path for investors seeking to elevate their fine wines collection with a unique distinction of quality and mettle. Its brilliance is a testament to Tenuta San Guido's unrelenting pursuit of producing extraordinary wines that mirror the heart of their terroir and the passing temperaments of each year.

The 2011 Bolgheri Sassicaia speaks to a broad, yet very distinct audience. I am absolutely charmed by this vintage. Soft cherry and blackberry confit emerge from the bouquet in thick, luscious waves. Leather, spice and tar play supporting roles. The wine offers a generous and expansive style. It also shows impressive balance and coherent inner integrity. This vintage certainly bears the hallmarks of a hot vintage, but it never feels overdone. It delivers volume, intensity and rich texture. This Sassicaia is a wine of enormous craftsmanship.
