A testament to winemaking prowess and astute investment
Known for his distinctive amalgamation of Marsanne and Roussanne, Chave is a wine artisan whose careful crafting of grape thaumaturgy results in vintages worthy of the most discerning investor's cellar. His 2002 Hermitage Blanc provides an enriching journey by offering not only a remarkable flavour profile but also an intriguing case for wine investment.
The synergistic environment composed of granite-rich soils, optimal sunshine exposure, and delicate nurturing results in wines that perfectly balance richness and freshness. The sumptuous honeyed overtones are complimented by crisp citrus notes - an intoxicating marriage that leaves a lasting impression on the palate.
Mother Nature's paradoxical gift
The climatic conditions during 2002 were nothing short of challenging. Despite persistent rainfall followed by an unforgiving drought, this year served as a paradoxical boon for Rhone Valley. Such adverse conditions culminated in lower yields but championed an intense concentration of flavours—an affirmed testament to the adage 'quality over quantity'.
This exquisitely golden-hued wine is exemplary of such fortuitous outcomes—demonstrating complexity and depth, with elements of spice, ripe fruits, and wafts of white floral notes. Both opulent and elegant, the 2002 Hermitage Blanc is a superb representation of the winemaking paradox that adversity can indeed breed exceptionalism.
Many critics agree that the 2002 Hermitage Blanc from Jean-Louis Chave is one of the most prominent ambassadors for Rhone and a wise wine investment. It's a compelling narrative, imbued in a glass, revealing a tale of resilient grapes, relentless passion, and remarkable finesse.

The 2002 Hermitage blanc exhibits abundant amounts of acacia flowers, honeyed citrus, and a hint of orange marmalade in a ripe, elegant, medium-bodied style. Because of its low acidity, it is best consumed during its first 5-7 years of life. What Chave accomplished in the extremely challenging 2002 vintage is unquestionably noteworthy. Not because of tiny yields and small grapes, but due to Chave’s decision to eliminate every grape except the very best, 2002 is a small crop. Importers: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel.
