2002 Chambolle Les Fremieres

By Domaine Leroy

2002 Chambolle Les Fremières from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy

The triumph of the often overlooked 2002 vintage in the illustrious lineages of Burgundy persists as a narrative that captivates savvy investors and connoisseurs alike. In this year, Domaine Leroy, helmed by the formidable Lalou Bize-Leroy, presented the world with a liquid poem in the form of the 2002 Chambolle Les Fremières.

A Serendipitous Vintage

It is no secret that Burgundy vintages can be as temperamental as they are distinguished, yet 2002 saw a serendipitous alignment of climate and terroir. Perfectly ripened Pinot Noir benefited from an extended period of fine weather during harvest, without the risks that excessive heat can bring. This meticulous balancing act yielded a wine that is finding its reach even two decades on.

Pedigree and Poise in Each Pour

Swirling the 2002 Chambolle Les Fremières from Domaine Leroy in one's glass reveals layers upon layers - a rich tapestry woven by an idyllic growing season. A deep garnet hue gives way to an ethereal bouquet; wild strawberries mingle with faint whispers of earthy truffles. It is in the tasting, however, where the 2002 vintage strides ahead of its kin. The palate dances gracefully between strength and finesse – robust yet refined tannins underpin a crescendo of Morello cherry and hints of cinnamon spice. The finish - meticulously lengthy and delightfully complex.

An Investment Vintage with a Narrative

The subtle genius of the 2002 Chambolle Les Fremières lies not just in the sensorial experience but in its potential as an investment piece. It possesses that rare equilibrium between exquisite maturity and lingering promise for continued evolution in the cellar. An asset for both palate and portfolio, Domaine Leroy's vintage asserts itself with a quiet confidence.

In summary, those who embraced the understated elegance of 2002 will find their faith rewarded manifold with each tasting of this wine. A consummate example of Burgundian excellence, Domaine Leroy's rendition from this year combines collectability with incomparable tasting pleasure. As it flourishes further with time, investors would be discerning to consider how this exceptional vintage might enrich both their cellars and their investment returns.

The ruby-colored 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremieres has an awesome nose of roses intermingled with black cherries. Lush, soft, and medium to full-bodied, it is ample and fruit-forward. Flavors reminiscent of black cherry syrup can be found in its broad personality as well as in its long finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2012. Note: This estate’s 2002s are not yet released. The above estimate is based on the prices of the 2001s, taking into account that the dollar has significantly dropped. Importers include: Martine’s Wines, Novato, CA; tel.
