A Vintage Shaped by Nature’s Whims
The 2001 vintage echoed the traits of quintessential Burgundian vintages – marked by a cool spring and an unpredictable summer which culminated in a late harvest. These conditions coalesced to create a wine that resonates with elegance and a beguiling tension between ripeness and vivacity.
The 2001 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux exhibits an intricate olfactory suite: wild cherries and ripe raspberry notes intertwine with subtle undertones of violet, all amply undergirded by a firm yet unobtrusive tannic structure. On the palate, it unfolds gracefully, its sinewy acidity guiding the experience towards a finish that resonates with echoes of spice and minerality – reflections of its noble terroir.
In terms of ageing potential, this exemplary vintage is at the zenith of its arc, offering immediate gratification yet promising further evolution for those patient enough to afford it time in their cellar.
A Confluence of Rarity and Eminence
The 2001 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux is one of those rare vintages where enigmatic weather patterns have blessed oenophiles with a wine that speaks profoundly of its origin. For collectors and investors alike, securing allocations from this limited production is to embrace not just a bottle but also a snippet of viticultural lore from Domaine Emmanuel Rouget. Scores and tasting notes
This was the first time that I have tasted the 2001 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux, and it did not disappoint. The bouquet explodes from the glass with scents of maraschino, raspberry preserve, cold granite and orange sorbet - very vivacious and brimming over with energy, lending it a youthful persona. Interestingly, it mutates in the glass, becoming more animal-like and almost Northern Rhône-like. The palate is very well balanced with rounded, quite lush red and black fruit married with a keen line of acidity. This Parantoux is all about generosity, layering the mouth with lascivious red fruit all bounded by a tight leash of mineralité and an ash-like note right on the tip of the finish. It will surely be an awesome proposition in a decade's time...if you can wait that long.
